How can I hook up my dvd recorder to my hdtv?

my dvd recorder does not have an hdmi link, however my cable box and obivously hdtv do. So how can I connect my dvdr to my hdtv while maintaining the hi-def signal and be able to record?

If I am understanding you correctly, you do not have a built-in DVR in your cable box, so you have to record your HD signal onto standard definition DVDs.

So, the way to do it would be to run the component cables from the cable box to the 'in' jacks on the DVR, then you go "out" from the DVR to the component video connections on your TV. The component cables are generally three together in three different colors. With this setup, you will only be able to record what you are watching, and I don't think your DVR will output a high definition signal, so give it a try and see what happens.

What I have at home is cable box that has a built-in DVR. It also has two tuners, so I can record one channel while watching another, or record two channels at the same time while watching something I've previously recorded. It actually records the channel that I am watching, so I can rewind and fast forward live television.

But sometimes that's not enough and I have to record a third television program to DVD. So, what I do is I have a second cable box and a second TV that are hooked up to my other DVR. On that one, I have to turn on the TV, cable box, and DVR and I turn the TV onto the channel I want to record. I then set the DVR to record from input L1 instead of a channel. After that's set up, I can turn off the TV.

Another thing I looked into was the possibility of using a signal splitter so that you can split the cable coming "out" from your cable box, sending one set of wires to the DVR before the TV and one to the TV from the cable box directly. You may need to get a device to boost the signal if you do it that way. It would go after the cable box and before the TV or DVR.

The best solution would be to get that cable box with the two tuners. That's the only way you can record and play back in high definition, and it would not require you getting a second TV, cable box, and DVR.
