Replacing a Lenovo LCD screen?

I accidentally dropped my laptop and the screen cracked, so I'd like to replace it. The rest of the computer works fine, as part of the screen still works and I'm able to do and see everything normally within that section. I have a few questions, though - the laptop is a T60p with a 14.1" sxga display. Will I be able to replace the screen with "compatible" screens - i.e. those found on ebay claiming to cover t60 and t61 computers, as well as other online stores (not from the company)? What are common problems associated with replacing a laptop screen? Is it possible to just buy the LCD itself, since the rest of the monitor (the plastic parts) are still whole? Thanks!

Replacing a laptop screen is usually a significant teardown. Pulling the plastic of the head apart often relies on the service technician knowing the right trick to pull the latches apart without breaking them.

Even if you are good with a screwdriver I would recommend getting a replacement screen bezel in case you break the original.

As for E-bay selling 'compatible' parts, I have no experience as to how good they are. Make sure it really is compatible with your machine type and model - there are a lot of different T60p models.

I would call up Lenovo and see how much they will charge to replace it. It will be expensive, but you know that it will be done right. And at least you will have a target price to compare against.
