Bedroom Office

Can I use my bedroom for office expense?

Filling out my income taxes. Last year I worked as an independent contractor. I am claiming utilities / the internet. I also want to claim a small area in my bedroom that I use for business purposes. Can I do that?

From what I understand, you can only claim a room is it is used solely for business purposes. So, you would have to have a specific room in your house set up as your office and nothing else.

I also work as an independent contractor and that is what I was told by my bookkeeper a couple of years ago. However, tax laws are always evolving so maybe that has changed.
